There’s 43 new nodes for various things including:

  • System nodes: To have info on drives, files, system, services, environment variables… With some contribution from woei
  • 2d Meshes : Superformula and polygon
  • Hash functions: MD5 and SHA-1, in file/string flavor
  • Email : Send/List
  • Hittests : on quad/circles/polygons and superformula.
  • Interleave : Generic vector join/split
  • K-Means: Clustering from a set of points
  • Particles field: Velocity field based particle system
  • Regexpr : To replace string content using a regexpr
  • R/S : R/S nodes with last takes precedence paradigm, and allowing multiple sendstring with the same name
  • XQuery : To manipulate XML using xquery
  • Geometry : Linearsystem solver, minimum circle/sphere and more…
  • MTGuid2d : Multi touch adaptation of tonfilm’s gui2d plugins

and…
Fully featured box2d physics engine, including joints, controllers, multiple shapes per body…
All that contains a bit more than 30 extra nodes :)
Thanks to defetto/dottore who funded the second part of the development.
So here we go that’s more than 70 new nodes to play with, hope you’ll find some useful :)
Released in two flavors, flat version (all in the same folder, similar to addon pack, just copy in plugins), and folder based version, so you can pick which ones you want (Not recommended)
Note: If you copy folder based version using subfolders, you’ll have different plugin path, so your patches won’t work with people using flat based or potentially further addon packs. For expert only.
Please note that the box2d is still flat (as it probably been used before), so this one need to be copied in the plugins folder as is.

Concurso Work In Patch Work

28.12.2009 (4:24 pm) – Filed under: Eventos

4208053539_6b7c1d8f99.jpg

Live Coding

The school of Art in Aix-en-Provence invited us to animate a workshop during one week around the theme of “live coding” with Vision Factory.

What?

Live coding is a practice aiming at modifying the instructions of a program while it is running. These changes take effect directly into the program logic and become interesting when the software is used for generating visual effects.
The process happens usually on only one computer, hosting the lines of code to be tweaked while a special piece of software is interpreting them.

Multi-hands programming

The workshop was the opportunity to push the concept a bit further by setting up a collaborative live coding on several computers. The students took part in a programming session on a local server-clients network architecture.
The final rendering was done on a server computer where the number of layers was directly related to the number of possible connected clients. Each layer was then driven by a javascript program typed on the client computer and then sent to the server to be run.

… ou “Démonstration d’écriture de graphisme génératif à la volée”, standing for “Demonstration for generative graphics written on-the-fly”.
The students experimented during four days with the platform Vision Factory that was set up as the server. The client software, written with Processing, allowed them to connect and send their lines of code to the server. The principles of 3D drawing with OpenGL were explored to perform a final composition. Based upon the cadavre exquis concept, students were asked to relay every five minutes in front of computer in order to code graphics. Lines of code as well as the result were projected on two distinct screens.

Siggraph Asia

27.12.2009 (12:27 am) – Filed under: Eventos

robot

I just got back from Siggraph Asia in Yokohama, Japan. Siggraph is an expo for the world’s leading experts on computer graphics and interactive techniques. I was helping Mobile Life giving a demo of the Instant Broadcasting System that they were showcasing in the Emerging Technologies section. I didn’t really have much free time to see the rest of Siggraph but visited the art exhibition and I met a few fellow VJs.
In the art exhibition there were a couple of things that stood out. The tree panel projection by Tokyo Wonder called Lights & Shadows (top video) was truly beautiful and well made.
The most exciting pice however was the Lumarca, a 3d volumetric projection on to strings. It’s made with Processing and the code is open source and downloadable through Google Code.
The VJs I met were Stuart J H Ward, a Canadian expat who has been living in Tokyo for few years and who’s very involved in the tokyo VJ scene. Stuart says the japanese VJ scene is pretty behind technically since manny of them are using Motion Dive Tokyo and are bound of the limitations of that software.  Then I ran into Tu from Bangkok based B.O.R.E.D., a VJ crew who I mentioned earlier this year in my Duckunit article. I never met Tu before since he was in NYC studying at Parsons when I was in Bangkok interviewing his friends. The last VJ I met was Nicolas Guyon who is one of the two creators of a VJ application called AWI, Audio Wave Interaction.
The rest of my Siggraph experience contained corny robots, an interactive sun rose and some pretty interesting physical computing gear from Microsoft Research in Cambridge which was kind of like the Arduino but without the soldering. And of course all the variations on touch screen and depth perception equipment that you can imagine (yawn!).

Nueva version de monomone.

three models: two fifty six (16×16), one twenty eight (16×8), and sixty four (8×8).

each is a reconfigurable grid of backlit keypads which connects to a computer. interaction between the keys and lights is determined by the application running on the computer. there is no hard-wired functionality.

this new series evolved from the 40h which began as an interface for our own music performance and art practice. we also make available a kit version which allows users to create their own 40h-like devices.

applications

live sample cutters, sequencers, math simulations, drum machines, generative controllers, tonal maps, games, visualizations. browse here. we make available all sources to encourage community contribution and enthusiasm.
